Your first hologram

This builds a welcome sign that floats, appears when a player comes close and greets them when they click it. About five minutes.

1. Create it

Stand where the hologram should go and run:

/hbb create welcome <gold><b>WELCOME</b>

welcome is its id: you use it in every other command, and it is the name of its file, plugins/HologramBB/holograms/welcome.yml. Ids are lowercase letters, numbers, - and _.

2. Open it in the web editor

/hbb web welcome

The chat answers with a link and a code. Click Open the web editor: the editor opens in your browser with the hologram already loaded. (Clicking the code copies it, in case you want to paste it on the editor's page instead.)

3. Design it (Edit mode)

The editor opens in Edit mode.

  1. In Layers, press + Add → Text to add a second line. Write <gray>Hello, {player}! in its text box. {player} becomes each player's name.
  2. Pick the first line and tick Background to put a box behind it. Choose its colour and how solid it is.
  3. Drag the arrows in the 3D view to move a line up or down.

4. Animate it (Animate mode)

Switch to Animate at the top. On the right is a list of moments:

  1. Pick Always and press + Effect → Float. The whole hologram now floats, all the time.
  2. Pick When a player comes close. Tick Hidden until a player comes close, then + Effect → Pop in on each line.
  3. Pick When the player walks away and add Pop out on each line.
  4. Pick Click 1. Add Bounce, and under When it starts press + Message and write <green>Welcome, {player}!.

Press Try it as a player over the preview: drag the Distance slider to walk closer and away, and press the click button. That is what players will see.

5. Save and apply

Press Save. The editor gives you a command such as:

/hbb apply aB3xYz9

Run it in game. Because the hologram now runs a chat message on click, the server lists it and asks you to confirm with /hbb apply aB3xYz9 confirm. Done: every player sees the sign, and each one gets their own greeting.
