Edit mode

Edit mode is what the hologram is: its layers, their text, colours, and where each one stands. Nothing moves here except what the hologram does on its own (the preview at the bottom plays it as a player sees it).

Layers

A hologram is made of layers, stacked: each line of text, item or block is one layer.

  • + Add adds a Text, an Item or a Block. A new one goes under the lowest one.
  • Click a layer to select it, in the list or in the 3D view.
  • The ⋯ button (or right-click) on a layer: rename, duplicate, copy and paste, move up or down the list, remove.

Names

Layer names are what animations and text changes refer to. Renaming a layer updates everything that uses it.

A text layer

SettingWhat it does
TextWhat it says. Several lines are fine. Uses MiniMessage: <gold>, <b>, <gradient:#5aa9e6:#b3d8f5>, <#ff8800>…
Buttons above the textColour the selected text, bold, italic, underline, gradient, {player}, new line.
BackgroundA box behind the text. Pick its colour and how solid it is. Untick it for none.
Text shadowThe dark shadow under the letters, as in chat.
Always faces the playerOn: it turns to whoever looks at it. Off: it stays facing one way, like a sign.

{player} is replaced by each player's name, and %placeholders% by PlaceholderAPI. See Placeholders.

An item or a block layer

  • Item: a Minecraft item name, like DIAMOND, NETHER_STAR or PLAYER_HEAD. Start typing and pick from the list.
  • Block: a block, with its state in brackets if it has one: minecraft:oak_log[axis=x].

Placing a layer

Drag the arrows in the 3D view. The tools on the left choose what the arrows do:

ScaleRMake it bigger or smaller

Snap to grid (in the menu) makes moves go in steps of 0.05 blocks and 15 degrees.

Folded under Advanced, for when you need them:
